Very nice museum. Especially a great place forkids with a wonderful area to play dress up. One exhibit focuses solely on the history of Stirling. The volunteers could not have been more helpful or truly charming. It is a great stop between your trip to the castle and the monument.
We live locally and only just discovered the Smith. We spent four hours in the place yesterday. It's truly fascinating. They also have a fabulous wee tea shop, with sandwiches and snacks. They reached the final of Scottish caf of the year in 2018, and I can see why ; the food was fresh and tasty and good value for money. It costs nothing to get into the museum and loss to see and read. They even allow you to take as many photographs as you want, which isn't the case with most of Scotland's museums and galleries.
Lovely local art gallery with museum collections too. Came to Stirling to visit a family member living here and we decided to have a walk around Stirling as I had never been before. We were greeted by a very nice gentleman at the information desk who clearly took pride in his job, rightly so.
The Smith in Stirling is unique. It's an ever changing museum and art gallery. History is really well displayed in all forms. Really interesting is the Italian paintings of the ordinary Italians of the mid 1800s. These were done by Smith himself and are history and art combined so well that the Italian ambassador wanted to take them back to Italy with him!Also a local art teacher has a wonderful display of his work. Don't miss this!
Fantastic museum with lots of local history and interactive exhibits too. The gallery space also changes frequently so there's always something new to see. It's a great place to take kids, especially to the garden at the back and the lovely cafe too.
